About David McCubbin Art and Design

It's a braided stream. 

A story about art, landscape and lunacy. It begins in the Botanical gardens in Melbourne. And spreads across the hinterland, picking up characters in the process

The story then arrives in the Strzlezcki Ranges to the east of Melbourne. A project inspired by the wonder of wet rainforest and the opportunity to restore degraded farmland which once held Australia's tallest trees. The Mountain Ash,

The challenge was to clear the scrub and replant this degraded country. It took years and consumed those who were involved. Through struggle, perserverence and madness, a forest emerged. Inspired by my great grandfather Frederick McCubbin whose paintings we sold, and by Richard Wagner whose music inspired my father, a hapless romantic
